To get an idea where we live, go to www.routenet.nl or maps.google.nl and enter our address, because the maps that used to be on this site aren't good anymore! There is a lot of construction in Leidsche Rijn -- although thankfully not on our street.

Groenedijk is one of the original old streets connecting Utrecht with De Meern. It is a long road that has now been converted to a bicycle path with limited car access. Many navigation systems don't guide people correctly. It is very important to turn onto Groenedijk from Damraklaan, otherwise you will not be able to reach us.

The bus (number 26) comes along the main road in this area, Langeraklaan, which is the border between Parkwijk and Langerak. Tell the driver that you want to get off at Archeologiepark. This bus stop is just after a series of newly built apartment buildings -- the first is semicircular, tall and red, and the others are shorter and a dirty brown/yellow color.

Groenedijk is parallel to Langerakbaan on the north side. If you walk along Langeraklaan in the same direction as the bus was going (away from Utrecht), you can turn right at Damraklaan or Scheuraklaan and you will come to Groenedijk.

Our house is on the corner of Scheuraklaan and Groenedijk. Again, if you are coming by car, follow Damraklaan and not Scheuraklaan. Turn left onto Groenedijk and drive to the end of that section of the road.

If you are coming from Utrecht, you can take the new yellow Douwe Egberts bridge over the canal and then cross the A2 and follow the signs for Parkwijk. If you are coming from Amsterdam or Breukelen or Nieuwegein or anywhere other than Utrecht, it is easiest to follow the A12 to De Meern and approach Langerakbaan from the other end. The old exit from the A2 at Oog in Al is totally changed and many people get lost that way. See the detailed instructions below.

Detailed instructions to our house on the Groenedijk:

By car from Utrecht:

Drive away from the centrum toward Oog in Al and the A2 highway. Pass the Douwe Egberts factory, cross the Amsterdam -- Rijnkanaal, and continue over the A2 toward Vleuten and Parkwijk. Turn left at the sign for Parkwijk. Follow this road about 1.5 km. You will go past the "paperdome," through one light, over 2 drempels, and past a tall half-round red nieuwbouw flat on your right. At this point the road is called Langerakbaan, and the next intersection with a light is Damraklaan. (Here there are more newly built apartments on your right, a mixed yellow and grey color.) Turn right, and then take your second left a short distance later, just before a small bridge. Now you are on the Groenedijk. Continue until you reach the red and white pole that blocks through-traffic. We are the yellow house on the right, number 56. You can park your car along the side of the road.

By car from points south of Utrecht:

You need the A2 highway toward Amsterdam. If you are coming from Antwerp or Breda, for example, take the "Utrecht West" exit about 14 km south of Utrecht. Once you are on the A2, follow the signs for the A12, toward Den Haag. Take the first exit (De Meern.) Turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Go straight through the first intersection and then go left (3/4) at the roundabout. This road takes you over the Leidsche Rijn river and T's at the Langerakbaan. Turn right on the Langerakbaan and go through 2 stoplights. At the third stoplight, turn left onto Damraklaan (by the newest apartment flats, yellow-grey in color) and then left onto the Groenedijk. We are the last house on the right in this section, number 56.


By car from points north of Utrecht: (best avoided now, under construction)

You need to get on the A2 highway toward Utrecht. Don't try to exit for Utrecht or Vleuten unless you know the area well. Get on the A12 going toward De Meern and follow the instructions below....

By car from points east of Utrecht:

If you are coming from Zeist or Arnhem, for example, follow the A12 in the direction of Den Haag. After you pass Knooppunt Oudenrijn, take the first exit (De Meern.) Turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Go straight through the first intersection and then go left (3/4) at the roundabout. This road takes you over the Leidsche Rijn river and T's at the Langerakbaan. Turn right on the Langerakbaan and go through 2 stoplights. At the third stoplight, turn left onto Damraklaan (by the newest apartment flats, yellow-grey in color) and then left onto the Groenedijk. We are the last house on the right in this section, number 56.

By car from points west of Utrecht:

If you are coming from Den Haag, follow the A12 in the direction of Utrecht. Take the exit for De Meern. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp, go under the A12, and turn right at the stoplight. Then you will come to a roundabout, where you will go left (3/4). This road takes you over the Leidsche Rijn river and T's at the Langerakbaan. Turn right on the Langerakbaan and go through 2 stoplights. At the third stoplight, turn left onto Damraklaan (by the newest apartment flats, yellow-grey in color) and then left onto the Groenedijk. We are the last house on the right in this section, number 56.

By bus from Utrecht:

Take the regional bus, number 26, for Langerak/Parkwijk. Get off at "Archeologiepark" and continue walking in the same direction the bus was going, along Langerakbaan. Turn right at Scheuraklaan, then right onto Groenedijk, and we are the yellow house on the left, number 56.

By bicycle from Utrecht:

You can follow the directions above for coming by car from Utrecht, past the Douwe Egberts factory and over the A2. It is also possible (and probably safer) to cross the A2 at the Utrecht centrum afslag. In this case, you will cycle away from the 24 Oktoberplein, cross over the canal bridge and then go to the right, as if you were going to take the A2 toward Amsterdam. But stay to the right instead of getting on the highway. You will go downhill, to the left, and under the A2. After you go under the A2, follow the Leidsche Rijn river on your righthand side. Take the first righthand turn, onto a rather narrow stone bridge that crosses the river. Follow the road to the left. At the first small intersection (with a round brick drempel in the middle) go to the right, along Bergemeester Verderlaan. Follow this road to the end, where it connects to the Langerakbaan. The tall half-round apartment building will be directly in front of you. Turn right and then left onto the Groenedijk, and continue to number 56, the yellow house on the right.
